Houston, take care of my Jon.

Jon at Hampton Beach in NH... couldn't resist this

Ive been putting off writing this post for some time now because I have a tendency to rationalize that by not thinking about a situation somehow makes it not real, but unfortunately the time has come to face reality. We are extremely blessed that Jon was offered an internship in Houston, TX with Deloitte (especially in this economy). We are hoping that this will lead to a full-time offer at the end of the 10 weeks that he will be there.

What's the downside?

Well, unfortunately, I have to stay here in Utah. This was a decision that we had to make together and with the Lord. Trust me, it wasn't easy. If I went to Houston I would risk not getting a job for the summer and then not having a job in Utah when we came back. I'd rather have a stressful 10 weeks rather than a stressful year. I am lucky to have my job and I really like it (most of the time ;-)...). another downside... I am now the "ward widow" hehe.

The upsides?

There are a million! (Sorry that this next paragraph sort of turned into a list) Obviously, the likelihood of a full-time offer (that would be awesome!). Jon's parents have been kind and willing to let Jon stay with them for the summer so he doesn't have to pay rent at an apartment- he'll just have to earn his keep by doing yard and computer work :-) If I can't be there with him- there's no one I would trust more to keep Jon out of trouble :-). I get to visit in June and July (14 days until I see him next!!). I am thankful that my boss has given me so much time off- this wouldn't fly at Comcast. Jon will be able to learn new skills, make good contacts, learn the bus system (hehe) and he'll be able to spend a lot of time with his family (I'd be lying if I said I wasn't jealous). He is also going to the gym w/ his family and has a personal trainer for the 10 weeks he's there. He's going to get buff ;-) That's a plus for me too! I have my 10k (that i'm dreading) coming up in July and I'm working hard at getting ready for that- that helps the time go by.

At the Red Sox game- Jon cheering for a homerun

Even though I'm missing Jon like crazy already and he's only been gone since yesterday (Thursday) morning, I am so excited for him. I'm "sordik" proud of him ("sordik" is carpet talk for: really; a lot- but w/ a huge emphasis). He has worked so hard and has accomplished so much.

On the train heading into Boston

Love you, pettie swie.

Crystal, we'll take good care of Jon. But you will see him before I do. Keep busy yourself and keep going to the gym like he is. You'll both be buff!

Way to go doing what's right even though it's so hard. I'm sure it'll all turn out in the end, but until then, call the Lund's for anything you need!!!!
