23 weeks- update

On Monday we had an ultrasound and then a doctor's appointment that followed after that.  Jon was able to come with me too.  It is always so fun to see the babies!  The ultrasound room has a flatscreen on the wall that we can look at instead of looking at the small tech's screen.

A few minutes into the ultrasound when the tech was trying to get a better view of the boy (baby A) someone in there kicked her lol.  It startled her at first and she was like "woah.. just got kicked!" Haha... It was funny.  Both babies are looking great.  Obviously measurements are subjective, but, both babies are showing that they are both weighing in at 1lb 1oz.  Over 2lbs of baby in there!  Woo hoo!  Keep growing little ones!

During the appointment we asked about the birth process and if we'll have to have a c-section or not.  Our baby girl is transverse and baby boy is breech.  They still have room to move, but I won't lie... I have a feeling that won't happen.  She said that delivering twins is always a tricky business.  If the first baby isn't head down, she automatically calls for a c-section.  If they are head down, you can try for a normal birth, but it must be done in the OR due to chances of complications with the 2nd and having to have a c-section anyways.  So,  I hate the thought of a c-section, but I think we are pretty much expecting it.  I really don't care how they get here, just that they are safe and healthy.

So, my last doctor visit I told me doc that I have been noticing that I have been losing more hair than usual (wonderful...).  Thankfully, because I have really thick hair, no one can tell. :)  However, this concerned my doctor a little and she decided to test my thyroid to check the levels.  So, for this appointment she went over my blood results for that.  She said that I was on the very high end of normal and wanted to test my levels again.  The normal range for TSH is from 0.5-4.5.  I was at 4.45.  Jon and I just figured that my levels just run high.  This was not the first time my thyroid has been checked out and I have never had a doctor tell me I was abnormal, so I figured all was fine.

The next day, I got a call from my doctor's office telling me that my levels had reached close to a 7 and that I had developed hypothyroidism aka: I have an under-active thyroid.  Great. I would have to start taking a pill for it.  I know that this isn't anything serious, and I'm glad that I mentioned my hair falling out in the first place, but it was a real shock to me.  I might've had a meltdown.. lol.  I asked if there was anything I could have done to prevent it and the woman on the phone told me "not at all".  It was good to hear that, I guess.  I just hope that once the babies come that my thyroid will get back to normal.   Here is the tricky part... I have to take an extra folate pill because I am having twins.  My new pill and my folate pill look identical.  I will need to try really hard to keep them separate!

Other than that, the babies are just fine and doing well.  I am still working on the whole weight-gaining thing.  I'm close to where I need to be lol.  I feel ginormous.

The nursery is coming along!  Jon and my father-in-law were so amazing and painted the room this past Saturday and I am in LOVE with it!!  It is probably my favorite room in the house!  Thank you, thank you!!  I even made them cookies for when they finished to help them know how much I appreciated it :)  Pictures coming soon!  I will have another post soon of some of the things I have been working on that I am really excited about!

High Fives

Can you believe how quickly time is flying by?  Here we are at 22 weeks already!

Without further ado, check out this wife and babies!

Magnificent, aren't they?  Crystal continues to do very well and her belly continues to grow.  Being a health nut she's very self conscious about it, but I keep trying to emphasize what a marvelous belly and miracle it all is.  I just hope she is able to remain comfortable throughout the remainder of the pregnancy.

Before I close the post I wanted to share yet one more milestone that we have reached in our pregnancy.  After days of failed attempts I successfully felt a baby kick for the first time last night.  I was so excited!  Crystal has been feeling them for some time, but I have not been able to experience the same until last night.  It was incredible to feel the little baby pushing back at my hand on C's belly.  High five, baby!  Amazing!
